AI as Your Thinking Partner

What this page collects
Your responses are saved in this browser only and are not transmitted anywhere at this stage. They cannot be linked to your name. Your poll answers and written reflections will be used by faculty for workshop discussion and analysis. Individual written responses will not be displayed publicly. Avoid including sensitive operational details. You may use this exercise to examine any professional problem you choose.
The scenario

You have been given ₹5 crore under the Ministry of Home Affairs' Modernisation of Police Forces (MoPF) scheme. You have been asked to propose one project that would meaningfully improve policing.

What would you propose?

Alternatively, if your facilitator has agreed, you may work on a different professional problem or proposal you genuinely care about. Begin by recording your thinking in Section 1 — without using AI. The prompts will be revealed one stage at a time. Your responses are saved in this browser only.

1Your proposal — without AI

Record your thinking before using AI. A brief, considered response is enough at this stage — you will develop it further through the stages below.

Saved — file downloaded

This also downloads a Word-compatible document of your proposal — keep it in case this browser is cleared.

2Think it through with AI

Five stages, conducted as one continuing conversation. Open your AI tool in a separate tab and keep the same conversation running throughout. Your facilitator will give you the passcode when it is time for the next stage.

Stage 1 — Examine the Problem

Before evaluating the project, the problem must be established correctly. A project built on a misunderstood problem will not deliver the intended outcome, however well it is designed.

After completing this stage in your AI conversation:

What happened to your understanding of the problem?

Stage 2 — Open the Possibilities

Settling on the first solution without comparison risks overlooking a more effective one. Before proceeding, examine the range of alternatives.

After completing this stage in your AI conversation:

How did AI's alternatives compare with your original proposal?

Stage 3 — Manufacture Friction

This step reverses the usual use of AI: instead of confirming you are right, ask it to argue you are wrong, surface the assumptions your proposal depends upon, and identify the evidence that would justify abandoning or redesigning it.

After completing this stage in your AI conversation:

How did you respond to AI's strongest criticism?

Stage 4 — Reverse the Conversation

Let AI question you one step at a time. Use your experience to work through how the proposal would operate, what it depends on, and where it might fail. Reach your own conclusions about what to retain, change or investigate.

To close the interview: use this prompt when your facilitator signals time is up.

What did AI's questions make you examine most closely? Select all that apply.

Stage 5 — Assume It Failed

Optional — your facilitator will indicate whether to proceed

This step works backward from failure: assume the project was funded and did not succeed, then ask AI what the most plausible reasons would be.
